Mushroom Science Reishi Super Strength (Standardized)
Mushroom Science Reishi Super Strength™ (Gano 161, Standardized), (Ganoderma lucidum, Japanese: Reishi, Chinese: Ling zhi), Dehydrated Hot Water Extract, 90 veg/caps, 400 mg. Dietary Supplement.
Reishi is a powerful preventative, liver tonic, and immune tonic. The Reishi mushroom is one of the most revered herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and along with it is a documented history of over 2000 years. It is now known as Ling zhi in China and there are references to its use in that country as far back as 100 B.C. where it was referred to as the "Herb of Spiritual Potency" and the "Ten-thousand Year Mushroom".*
The focus of Traditional Chinese culture is on actively promoting good health and the prevention of health problems. Reishi is one of the most highly regarded mushrooms in Traditional Chinese culture for this purpose and tea made from reishi mushrooms is the premiere tonic herb in Traditional Chinese Herbalism. *
Modern clinical research also supports many of the uses for this mushroom as described in Traditional Chinese Hebalism. It benefits immune health, cardiovascular health and liver function. It has shown to demonstrate anti-inflammatory effects and have a blood sugar lowering effect. In addition, Reishi mushroom extracts are frequently used by mountain climbers to combat altitude sickness. Reishi mushroom extracts are also contained in many of the performance enhancing herbal formulas used by Chinese athletes.*
In Traditional Chinese texts, an extract of the mushroom fruit body is used, never the mycelium. The modern clinical research has also confirmed that Reishi mushrooms, not the mycelium, must be used as the mushroom contains essential beneficial compounds that the Reishi mycelium is missing.*
Research has demonstrated that Reishi has several different active constituents and one group is the polysacharides (1-3 linked proteoglycans extracted from the cell walls) which have been found to have immune-enhancing properties. Another major class is the triterpenes(Ganoderic Acids). The triterpenes can be found on the shiny red surface on the cap of the reishi mushroom, a physical feature not present in the mycelium, and they provide the significant health benefits for the liver that Reishi is famous for. At 6% triterpenes, the Mushroom Science Reishi Super Strength extract is very powerful. The Mushroom Science Reishi Super Strength extract is currently being used and studied in human clinical trials at Bastyr University, one of the top Naturopathic Medical Colleges in North America.*
Reishi is mild and warming in nature, with a bitter taste. In Traditional Chinese text it is used to nourish, tonify, remove toxins and disperse accumulation. It is used as a tonic for symptoms of weakness or debility and as a sedative for dizziness and insomnia. All available references from Traditional Chinese text have Reishi prepared as a hot-water extraction/decoction.*
Suggested Use: 1-4 capsules twice daily, AM and PM, or more as recommended by your health care professional. Take on an empty stomach.

Mushroom Science has been offering only the most effective and purest of all natural mushrooms since 1994. They grow all their own certified all natural mushrooms on wood, the way nature intended. Each extract is carefully prepared capturing the complete essence of what made these vital mushrooms valuable in the ancient herbal traditions of Japan and China. Mushroom Science uses only hot water extracts to produce their products for the maximum benefits of bioavailability and concentration. Thousands of studies have been done proving the effectiveness of hot water extracts (liquid and dehydrated) and all of the references from Traditional Chinese text recommend hot water extraction when preparing mushrooms. They are rarely soaked in alcohol or water in the absence of heat. Every batch is analyzed for purity and contains guaranteed amounts of the active compounds. Each product is offered as a pure extract, containing no mycelium bio-mass or ground mushrooms as filler.*
BIOAVAILABILITY – The immune supporting polysaccharides common to many mushrooms and mushroom mycelium are found inside of the cell walls. However, the cell walls of the mushrooms and mushroom mycelium are made from an indigestible fiber called "chitin," the same material a lobster shell is made of. Hot water extraction is the only clinically validated method for breaking these polysaccharides out of the indigestible cell walls. Even soft mushrooms like Shiitake are prepared as a hot water extract or a tea when used.*
CONCENTRATION – The immune supporting polysaccharides found in the cell walls of mushrooms and mushroom mycelium comprise only 0.5-2% of the total mass by dry weight (depending on the mushroom), not enough to have effect even if they were bioavailable. Most hot water mushroom/mycelium extracts are at least a 20:1 concentration.*
